This May during Commencement, a bunch of Fairkids were hanging out around couchboat one night and met several Fairkid and OSCA alums who came down to check out how the space had changed. One of those Fairkid alums was Claire Fitts, who currently owns and runs Butterfly Bakery in Vermont, VT. She had a bunch of sample goodies that she gave to us, and also told us that she makes her own sugar-free hot sauce.
Because of Fairkid’s no-cane products policy, hot sauces are hard to come by because most of them have either cane or corn-based sweeteners. The beloved coöp condiment sriracha is unpurchasable by Fairkid for this reason. When Claire mentioned that she made her own version of sriracha, excited rumblings began going around couchboat.
Some of us had given Claire’s info to our food buyers, but no response was had. So I took it in my own, impulse-buying hands when I saw that the hot sauces were in stock on her website, and bought 3 bottles with my own money. I sent Claire a note mentioning that we had been thrilled to meet her in May. She responded saying that it had been nice to meet us too and that she was adding “some extra freebees” because shipping was so expensive.
I imagined she would give me a couple cookies. The picture above shows the amazing things I received today. All I ordered were the three leftmost hot sauces. I cannot believe how generous Claire was to send all these amazing, Fairkid Food-Policy friendly goodies. I can’t wait to eat all of them and to make sure that Fairkid maintains a relationship with this fantastic alum in the future!
Ari and Jasmine were two ordinary Oberlin students, until late one fateful night, during pizza crew, they were bitten by a radioactive Hobart. Ari received incredible kitten-picture locating skills and stack-keeping ability. Jasmine developed an uncanny knowledge of modified consensus and Fairkid status quo. Faster thans a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, Sar-El and Sheye-Jor appeared to them from their home planet of iDLECtron and entrusted them with the protection, facilitation, and loose-end coordination of the co-op. But with great power comes great responsibility. Ari and Jasmine answered the call and became CHLOROPUNCH AND CONSENSUSGIRL: SUPER-DLECs!
There are some silly posts in the JusticeGoats drafts. Here’s a fun one that is now a year old that yours truly (blog mods Sonia and Sarah) are finding hilarious for the nostalgic lols (as the kids say)
